The building was commissioned by SC Johnson for their research and development division to house their scientists in the mid 20th century. M.L. Johnson of the Associated Press indicates that the cutting edge architecture may have actually helped inspire the scientists stating, “within eight years of its 1950 opening they developed four of the company’s most successful products.”
