Finishes- Light at the end of the tunnel!

We keep hoping that we will get to a point where it’s less busy, but it just keeps getting busier! We are pushing towards finishing this thing and about 3 weeks out!

Since the last post, we’ve has all tile go in, our wood ceiling, wood flooring, cabinets, counters, interior doors and trim. This week we are painting.

Wood ceiling

This took our trim installers about a week to do. After starting to put up some tongue and groove pine boards, we soon realize that the lumber yard only delivered about half of what we ordered (and paid for)!!! So, they were very apologetic and scrambled to find enough for the other half. We had to scrap together what they could find in their yard and 1 other supplier. Since we couldn’t wait the few more days it would take to deliver to the site, we rented a home depot pickup and brought those 20′ boards up ourselves…that was a nerve racking drive 🙂 Then we had to put stain/ sealer on ourselves because it was too late to call painters up again (they stained the first half)

Tile

Tile went pretty smoothly. Had to buy a few more boxes of tile and grout. Apparently the 10% extra rule should be increased for bigger tile with more cuts. The tile looks amazing! Very happy with our choices!

Wood Flooring

We ordered some engineered wood flooring, and had an installer lay it down. We thought we could float this Tongue and groove flooring but our installed recommended against floating this and we had it nailed/glued down. It looks great!

Cabinets

Cabinets got delivered and installed. There was one little snafu where the panel next to the fridge was the cabinet depth, not the depth of the front of the doors. The whole look was to have a flush face so we ordered a new piece and will replace it.

Counters

First the fabrication company came to measure/ template, and then installed. The 10′ long island slab was scary coming up the stairs. There were 2 guys from the counter company and the trim guy and myself helped to bring it in! They look great, along with the undermount sinks.

Trim & Doors

Our trim guy installed all the interior doors, door casing, and base trim. He will also be installing a bunch of other stuff such as door hardware, cabinet pulls, mantle, shelving, bath hardware, mirrors….

Current Status

Our propane tank got installed yesterday, woohoo! Xcel is supposed to come today after cancelling two previous installs (because the crew had priority to go to other emergency issues). Fingers crossed 3rd time is a charm and they actually show up today!

Painters are working now and should be done by the end of the week. Then on Monday we let loose and have plumbing, elec, sprinkler, and mech all do their finals along with final inspections. Also we have our handrails going in. Then the following week we have carpet and appliances installed!! Then we are practically done!
